Come Join the Fun!
The Woodstock Community Choir is open to men and women age 16 and older who have a desire to sing, have fun and meet new people! No audition is necessary and all levels of singers are welcome. We perform an eclectic mix of repertoire ranging from classical to rock and everything in between.
We also perform compositions by local songwriters and original arrangements by our Artistic Director, Cassandra Vohs-Demann. We currently rehearse at the Unity Spiritual Center of Woodstock, 225 W. Calhoun Street in Woodstock, Illinois. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, 7:30-9:00 p.m. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and our board is always busy with exciting plans to expand the choir. Join our mailing list to keep up with our progress!
Woodstock, Illinois is a wonderful community with many artistic activities available to the public. It is home to the Historic Woodstock Square, a community band that has been around for over 100 years, and the historic Woodstock Opera House, and yet it lacked a community choir. In March of 2014, Cassandra Vohs-Demann and the staff of A Place to Shine Music embarked on a journey to create a community choir in Woodstock. They reached out to the public via Facebook, email, posters and an online survey to assess interest in a choir. They hosted three community sing nights to give people a chance to join together for a fun night of singing. The response received was overwhelmingly positive which inspired them to move forward with starting a choir in January of 2015.
The choir has performed at the Woodstock Opera House, Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, Unity Spiritual Center of Woodstock, Deerpath Assisted Living in Huntley, the Raue Center in Crystal Lake, and was even featured on television in Spain! That popular quote “If you build it, they will come” truly can be a reality. We are grateful beyond words for all the support we have received.
